Introducing a fantastic tool called Virtual Router Manager which automates and simplifies the Windows 7’s cool feature called Wireless Hosted Network (Virtual Wi-Fi) technology. Using the feature a notebook or a desktop with wireless adaptor can be used as a Virtual Wireless Router Hot Spot. Virtual Wi-Fi Technology can be configured on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. While providing a simple feature the it offers the best wireless security (WPA-PSK) to secure the connected devices to the Virtual Router. In fact there is no way to disable this security and enable an unsecured connection.
How it helps you?
- You are connected to internet using a USB 3G modem and you wanted to share the internet to a friend sitting near to you.
- An easy file transfer between Notebook and Smartphones without using a cable. (iPhones can be used as a Flash drive Replacement)
- The simple Ad-Hoc connection lets you connect your Laptops, Mobile Phone, Gaming devices and more.
How does it work?

The installation is pretty easy but once the installation is completed the notebook should be restarted before starting the virtual service. Otherwise you will get error message ” Virtual Router Could Not Be Started!”.
Configuration
1. SSID Configured as “Hackstacks” then 8 characters long password is mandatory.

2. After starting the service scan the “Hackstacks” wireless on your Wi-Fi Device and connect.

3.Virtual Router Manager showing connected devices.

Here Wireless Network Connection 3 is a Virtual Adapter its shared from the Intel Wireless Card

Thanks for the great read!
Wonderful post, which everyone should be interested. This blog may become my favorite.
Still “Virtual Router Could Not Be Started!” after restarting laptop. My laptop is connected via Ethernet cable. Shared connection field shows “Broadcom Netlink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet” only, no Wireless Network Connection. Is there any solution?
RIght, it cannot be starter automatically after restarting the PC. YOu have to do it manually. THis is important for me.
This just plain doesn’t doesn’t work… I have rebooted, etc. Still get the “Could Not Be Started!” and no additional adapter shows up in network connections either.
Alvin,
Check your device manager and see if you got a new virtual nic there?
