Cosmic Panda is a new experiment from YouTube. You have been seeing the same YouTube interface for the past 8 years and now the developers at YouTube is trying out a completely revamped YouTube interface and its coming through the YouTube labs for testing. The new design is focused more on the Channels and the Watching experience. That means you will find more options and features for designing a better YouTube channel and the video watching experience is also pretty great as the new design is more of with dark background. The new player has four video size options which includes3 buttons below the video windows and one full screen option.

While watching the videos you will find the new design is more focused on the videos played on the player as the commenting system is placed in different tab. You can anytime try out and migrate your account to experience the Cosmic Panda. Also anytime you can revert back to the old design by accessing the same link. For those who have a YouTube channel they can redesign the channel page as you are provided with more templates for your channel.

While having fun with this new design from the lab YouTube is also encouraging you to send them your feedback. Hopefully we can expect this rolling out to every user pretty soon.

YouTube adds a new stream called YouTube 100 for the Music lovers to find the latest music tracks trend on YouTube. The page has a section for Top Music Chart which has a list of 100 videos listed by it’s popularity. YouTube has used the number of Video view to generate this list. Apart from this Top 100 listing you will see Today’s Hits and Popular Genres headings. Popular Genres heading will have the categorized listing of videos. Such as Pop, Rock, Rap, R&B etc. One who is confused of using YouTube to watch videos can use this page to find the latest music for them.

In fact I was using YouTube to watch latest music and the YouTube main window had kind of all lists of videos but this new stream of music page is really awesome and its easy to find the tracks.

Google has announced a service discontinue of Google Videos a few weeks back the reason behind is an overlapping with YouTube service as both serves the same to the public. The shutdown will happen on April 29th and Google has sent out a note to all its Google Videos users requesting to download the Videos to their local storage and then upload it to YouTube. But by doing this you are losing the video properties data such as number of views other video rankings. So many users have reported that it is not the right way of service discontinuation or a migration. Ultimately it looks like a merge with YouTube. By considering the user’s feedback’s Google has finally added an option to directly upload the Google Videos to your YouTube account.

You need to login to the Google Video status page Once logged in accept the terms of use and continue to your Google Video Dashboard. You will see the complete listing of all your Google Videos.

MailVU is a new platform for recording Video or Audio for sending as email to someone with highest privacy. There are already webcam enabled chats and web recording features such as Skype or YouTube. Using YouTube it is not so easy to set privacy and share the video or audio with someone but MailVU is aiming to give better privacy by a feature for setting up an expiration time for a recorded file. For ex: A recorded video can be set for deletion after a day or so. So if someone tried to view it after the expiration time the video will no longer available.

MailVU key features

• MailVU recording video widget works on any Internet browser.
• Video email can be recorded directly using the webcam.
• No video codes required to play the videos.
• No user account or sign up required for creating videos.
• Create self-destructing videos for better privacy.
• Delivery and Read notification of emails.
• MailVU video recording Widget can be embedded in to any website.
• Only one user needs to be online to send the video.
• Recorded media can be shared either by link or by email.
• And finally MailVU is a free service.

Bottom line

MailVU is not providing more than 10 minutes of media recording. So when you need to record longer videos you can opt YouTube as an alternate. Since it does not require an account signup you can use it for sending a quick media, also if you failed to select the self-destructing feature the video will get automatically wiped from MailVU servers after 30 days.

If you are a regular reader of Hackstacks then you must have read my previous post on downloading YouTube videos very easily and here I am sharing a piece of information for how to easily download Mp3 from a YouTube video. By using video2mp3.net extracting audio from YouTube has become really easy and you don’t require anymore additional tool for this.

Experience it yourself.

Here is the screenshot for Converting YouTube to MP3 on Video2mp3 website.

Video2mp3 claims that it supports other online video sharing sites as well. But we have tried only YouTube.
