Today I am up with a quicktip series article. I will share a tip for finding the computer (or some people say it Hostname) name using an IP Address of it. Usually ping is a command used to check the connectivity between the computer and any other networking device. When you do a ping command to an IP Address the device it will actually send and receive few data packets between the origin and destination devices. By looking at the reply we can determine if the destination device is active. Using the same command we can determine the computer name as well.

We will use the same ping command but we will add “-a” switch before we type the destination IP Address. (Use the switch without the quotes.)

Here is the screenshot for this command in action.

You can even try this command without adding the “-a” switch. See the difference what you get.

Here is a quick tip for an annoying problem you may be currently facing in Facebook. It’s Tagging yeah it can be really annoying when someone tags you in some of his pictures posted on his wall. When these tagging happens all your friends can see that you are tagged on to these images as this image will be displayed on your wall. This was a always a concern when the tagging was introduced. Finally Facebook is addressing these issues and introducing more privacy features.

Tag Review is one among them to monitor the tagging and approve/reject by your wish. By default this feature is in disabled state so in order to make use of this feature you need to enable this feature under the privacy settings. Let’s see how to do that!

Click on the Privacy settings

Click on Edit Settings link on How Tags Work option.

Click on the Off link to see the tagging enable window.

Enable the tagging enabled as you see in the screenshot

That’s it once you click on Enabled all the tagged items will come for review and you can decide whether to approve them or reject them.

Saving the browsing session is indeed a great feature on web browser and Firefox was the browser to introduced it. When Google chrome become the favorite browser of many users this session saving feature was one thing which Google Chrome users missed in it then later they came out with a plugin which somewhat provides session saving feature while exiting from the Chrome browser. Personally I was not quite happy with the plugin and that made me to set the Firefox as my default browser. But then when Firefox 4 released the default session saving option while exiting was disabled.

So by having that in mind I went and added the Session Manager add-on. It is a very nice session saver add-on. Best thing of this add-on is it can save multiple sessions and store it by different names. But still I wanted to find a solution for the native session saving feature on Firefox and I found it today so here am sharing it with you.

Follow these steps to see a prompt to save your existing to session on Firefox.

(1) Open a new Firefox Tab and type in About:Config in the address bar. (Proceed further when it warns)
(2) Now search for browser.warnOnQuit in the Filter box (Make sure it is configured as True)
(3) If not selected True double click on it to change the value to True from False.
(4) Now search for browser.showQuitWarning In the Filter Box
(5) Now double click on the value to make it to True from False.
(6) Finally restart the Firefox browser and open up few websites and try to exit. Now you will see the prompt to save the current session.

When you plug a USB Flash drive in to your computer it will not show in My Computer but if you plug the same drive on a different computer it will show the drive letter on the Explorer. It will be a Quicktip for this weird problem because I have seen people have spent many hours to find a solution for this simple problem.

So here is the simple solution!

(1) Open the Disk Management window (Type in diskmgmt.msc in Run box)
(2) No plugin that problematic USB drive as soon as it’s plugged you will start seeing one additional drive on the Disk Management window. (This drive will not have a drive letter assigned)
(3) Right click on this drive and click on “Change Drive Letter and Paths”

(4) Then Click on “Add” then assign any Drive letter which is not used by any of the drives.

(5) Click Ok to accept the changes. Now you will see your drive displaying on My Computer.

If you are using your Blackberry for day to day activities over a period of time you may experience a performance problem. Because there are chances that the unwanted applications can fill up the phone’s memory. The same thing you will experience in a computer as well. So you probably do a Soft-boot on a computer to get it restarted and refreshed. Same thing can be applied on your Blackberry! You can either do a Soft-reset or Hard-reset.

What is the difference between Hard and Soft resets in Blackberry?

Hard rest is simple you just have remove the battery from the phone and wait for a minute or so then put it back and turn on the device and the whole system gets refreshed. Well hard reset is pretty simple but when you are using a protective case for the phone it will not be easy to taking it separately. Even this frequent action can cause the panels to become faulty in a short span.

Before discussing about soft reset let me remind you that soft resetting does not mean that you switching on/off the handset. When you switch off your phone that is not get completely rebooted instead of that the phone’s network and data services will be turned off and the phone goes to a hibernating mode. So in-order to soft reset your device you can simultaneously press ALT, Right Shift and Delete keys together. That’s it your Blackberry phone will reboot after clearing all the memory.

Try it out yourself and share your experience!

Microsoft is giving you best tips to use your keyboard in a better way to avoid any health issues. Because if you are using the keyboard throughout the day you are supposed to follow some best practices to safe guard your arms and elbow.
“If a new keyboard isn’t in your future, be sure to use your current keyboard properly to avoid soreness or injury to your wrists, hands, and arms. Curious about how to create a more ergonomic work space for yourself?” Check out these tips to help you work more comfortably and reduce your risk of painful injuries or disorders.

Here are some general tips to help you avoid problems:

•	Place your keyboard at elbow level, with your upper arms relaxed at your sides.
•	Center your keyboard in front of you. If your keyboard has a numeric keypad, you can use the spacebar as the centering point.
•	While typing, use a light touch and keep your wrists straight.
•	When you’re not typing, relax your arms and hands.
•	Take short breaks every 15 to 20 minutes.
•	Type with your hands and wrists floating above the keyboard, so that you can use your whole arm to reach for distant keys instead of stretching your fingers.
•	Avoid resting your palms or wrists on any type of surface while typing. If your keyboard has a palm rest, use it only during breaks from typing.

Before I have posted an article on productive usage of Google tasks but I don’t know how many of us are using it effectively to note the tasks and prioritize the work you doing! So today am going to share a small finding on Google Tasks to restore the accidentally deleted tasks.

Google has an option to display the Delete list but as of now it is throwing an error message saying “This happens to your default list, so you cannot delete it. We will fix this in an upcoming release! “ but i trick for you! But before going further keep it mind that you can only recover/restore last 30 days task items. Is not it enough?

Okay now let’s see and do some restore!

First thing create a dummy task item and delete it. Now you will see “View recently deleted items”

Once you click on the View recently deleted items button it will show all the previously deleted tasks.

So that’s it you are done with tasks restoring!

Let us know if it was helpful!
