There is a massive percent of users are still using various email services. That does not mean that they don’t wish to switch to Gmail but certain fear pulling them back for such mail migration. It will not be easy to switch email account without proper migration plan as it can affect your business if you use your email for business purpose.

When Gmail provides a faster and premium level of service without charging anything who will not like to switch? Gmail service is more flexible and provides advanced features to tailor one’s inbox according to their needs.

The inbuilt Google Lab tools are such package and using the tools in it can transform your Gmail box in to a cloud ready Microsoft Outlook. If you look at the 10 reasons to use Gmail you will know how much superior is Gmail service from others.

Back in 2009 the email migration feature was introduced to import email account data from Aol, Yahoo, Hotmail and other webmail and POP3 accounts. Last week Google has extended the account migration to few more Domains as well.

Google has created a website for Gmail Switch which illustrates the path for a simple mail migration. The migration process includes Signing up for a new Gmail account, Transferring mail and contacts, Creating custom “from” address and announcing your account.

The four phases are provided with detailed information for you to do it yourself.!

Hotmail these days improving and improving alot. Rolling out the features of Microsoft Exchange server for Hotmail users. Giving more advanced features for the end users to reduce the clutter of managing and maintaining multiple mailboxes for various purpose. One such email address usually will be used for Online Shopping, Job hunting, Newsletter subscribing etc etc. So people used to create at least 2 or more account for various purposes. Thus you will have to remember multiple passwords and email ids.

Hotmail reduces that problem completely by providing the ability to create Alias for an Email ID. The alias feature is currently available Google Apps feature (It called as a nick name for Alias feature)But regular Gmail users are not provided with this Alias feature flexibility

What is an Alias in Hotmail?
Suppose if you have a mail id like this renjith_vc@hotmail.com so you can create alias for online shopping something like shop.renjith@hotmail.com or shopren@hotmail.com and another alias like ren@hotmail.com . One important thing is the main account renjith_vc@hotmail.com remains as your main Hotmail account rest all the accounts for only receiving/sending emails.

Note: Alias can’t be used to login to mailbox. Also if you receive a message “The email address is already taken. Please choose another one.” When you create alias don’t be panic that means you cann’t have that alias for your mailbox because someone already registered in that name.

So let’s see how to create one Alias

1) Login to your Hotmail account
2) Click on Inbox and then click “Create a Hotmail Alias”

3) Choose a Name/Alias then click on “Create an Alias” button.

4) Now choose the mailbox as where do you want to save all the incoming mails for the alias or create a new mail folder for new alias.

5) So now we have different Alias. Now click on Compose and then click on the primary email address drop down to see the available Alias to get Send as email option.

6) Great! So you have learned how to create Alias and how to send emails from the created Alias.

Hope it helped you in some way. Let us know your story that how it helped you. Do share it!

Gmail is the preferred Email now! Google has enhanced it with many features from last 3 or 4 years. Remember the days you used it with classic theme with no chat feature? Obviously the speed was far superior when you compare it with today’s mailbox. Can’t blame Google as we are using more features in Gmail than those days. On a normal broadband it will work well but what if you don’t have a fair network speed available? Suppose if you are on a GPRS connection? Gmail will fail to load and prompt you to load in basic HTML version. Sometimes that will also fail.

So how to get connected to Gmail?

You can type in this link https://mail.google.com/mail/x/ in your browser instead of loading it with www.gmail.com
Were the” x” will give instruction to Gmail to load the mailbox in mobile version. It will just load your mailbox without all the graphics and scripts.

If you want some more better HTML version try the putting “h” instead of “x” the link will look like this https://mail.google.com/mail/h/

To make it handy create a shortcut for this link on your desktop!

Hope it was helpful!

Recently we heard couple of stories related to Phishing one was Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook Page hacking and the other one was a also a Facebook story of a phishing page hosted in some US free site hosting service. There is no surprise as Facebook is always targeted because whoever is on lime light they will get the maximum smash.

Recently OpenDNS has prepared a fantastic analysis on Phishing and the results are really unexpected as United States won the first place for hosting the most number of phishing sites. You can’t say that all these sites are operated from US but they are being the reason and providing the infrastructure for any unethical practices.

Anyways let’s drill down to some graphs and charts to know the results in detail.

Paypal won the top targeted phishing site in 2010 followed by Facebook the #1 Social Networking platforms then HSBC Group the biggest banking group has also gained 3rd place. Personally I have got so many phishing emails saying HSBC and asking me to login!

For Hosting most number of phishing sites United States won the first place. As per the report more than 60,000 separate attempts came from websites hosted in the U.S.

No more hassle of entering all your personal information to create an account in Yahoo! Mail. It is very easy as you can use your Facebook or Gmail account to complete the sign up process. It will access all the personal information from your Facebook or Gmail account once you allow Yahoo to access your account. Once Yahoo pulled the information it will let you enter your desired email id to complete the sign up process for a new Yahoo! account.

What is Email Marketing?

E-mail marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fund-raising messages to an audience. In it’s broadest sense, every e-mail sent to a potential or current customer could be considered e-mail marketing.

What is the benefit?
• For enhancing the relationship of a merchant with its current or previous customers, to encourage customer loyalty and repeat business.
• Sending e-mails with the purpose of acquiring new customers or convincing current customers to purchase something immediately.
• For sending e-mails with advertisements when a new product or service introduced.
• For conducting an e-mail campaign to know the current trend in market.
• It generates immediate results.
• It is helpful when top email services fail to deliver the mails.(It block spamming)

Researchers estimate that United States firms alone spent US $400 million on e-mail marketing in 2006.
