Why Facebook has to be blocked in Enterprise Networks?  IT managers were afraid that the corporate data will be leaked through these social networking sites. Companies like Palo Alto introduced their next Gen UTM Firewalls to get more control over the internet traffic in an enterprise network.

Palo Alto is capable of disabling the Facebook functions like:

Facebook Chat
Facebook Applications
Facebook Micro blogging
Facebook Mail
Facebook Social Plug-ins (Farm ville , Mafia war like)

I have seen people have gone so addicted to certain plug-ins and they will logon to Facebook for hours only to play these games.  Using Palo Alto the network administrator can set a time frame to allow access to Facebook.
But why you need a Read-Only Facebook?
The impact of Social networking sites like Facebook and twitter has open scope to online marketing in Social Networking sites.  Many small companies are depending such online marketing to get their clients using the communities and groups in such sites. Palo Alto helps companies who require Facebook for their business and set control over employees who use it mostly for personal purpose. Even it can set rules according to your company departments.

Palo Alto Networks™ is the next-generation firewalls enable unprecedented visibility and granular policy control of applications and content – by user, not just IP address – at up to 10Gbps with no performance degradation. Based on patent-pending App-ID™ technology, Palo Alto Networks firewalls accurately identify and control applications – regardless of port, protocol, evasive tactic or SSL encryption – and scan content to stop threats and prevent data leakage.Information on more than 1,000 applications that are identified by Palo Alto Networks can be found in Applipedia, part of the company’s Application and Threat Research Center.
