
I am talking Pidgin the universal chat client. If you don’t know what is universal chat client; these clients will let you login to any of your chat network. These chat networks can be Yahoo!, MSN, Gtalk, AIM, ICQ etc. In fact the list goes on you can configure any of the chat networks in to this universal chat clients. So managing multiple chat accounts in single Chat client makes it easier since it helps to reduce clutter on your desktop with dozens of startup items and icons. So today we are going to see such universal client called Pidgin which supports the Facebook chat! Actually it’s really cool application when you only want to chat with your Facebook friends who are available in chat.
We will see how to configure it for accessing the Facebook chat on your desktop without opening the Facebook.com page.
(1) Go to Accounts and click on Manage Account.
(2) Now click on Add to configure a new account.
(3) Add the following settings for the Facebook Chat under the Basic tab.
Select Protocol: Facebook(XMPP)
Username: your Facebook username
Domain: chat.facebook.com
Resource: Pidgin
Password: Facebook account password
Local alias: Facebook Chat

(4) Now click on the Add to add this account to Pidgin client.
(5) After that it will enable the Facebook chat on the Pidgin buddy list.
