As a part of the new look of Gmail Google is planning to revamp the Google Docs as well. Google Docs gets the new look same as the Gmail theme. The new interface brings new set of keyboard shortcuts which helps a user to work on the docs without the need of a mouse.

You can take a look at the new interface by clicking on the link says “Try the new look” on the right side top of the Google docs page.(You can use the same link to revert back to the classic look) Here is the list of shortcuts for the new Google Docs interface.

This shortcut’s list will come in handy but if any time you need a quick look at the shortcuts use the these keys to popup the Shortcut window on the Google Docs.

If you are a website/blog owner you would probably be looking for multiple device or browser compatibility. It is essential for your website to have cross platform support to provide better readability for your visitors. Before a webmaster had to look only for multiple browser compatibility but today we have many devices which such as smartphones, tablets, netbooks and Internet TV. Your readers can come from any of these devices so it’s important that we should check the compatibility across all these.

There are similar tools like a Firefox add-on available which can switch to user agents and test how your website looks like in web browsers and iPhones. This particular add-on will report if your website has incompatibility with any Internet explorer web browser versions. Screenfly is a web app which can render your website in to many devices such as desktop, netbooks, TV, Smartphones and Tablets.

The Screenfly web app has a simple interface it’s mainly focus on testing various device’s resolutions.

Click on the Image to enlarge

** While testing on the smartphone your website/blog should be optimized for a mobile device otherwise Screenfly will not be able to render it well.

Check it out Screenfly

The world of applications is expanding rapidly. As businesses, online and traditional students and regular Joes find that applications can be useful in everyday life, developers are creating even more. Google, for instance, has recently begun to create apps for their new search engine Google Chrome. Initially for their new product the Chromebook, the Google Chrome App store has released many fine apps that are practical for all users.

These apps include: Google Books, Dealmap, and Weather Window by WeatherBug, Podio and Fractulator.

Google Books is a very innovative app. What makes it different form other book applications is the concept of storing all your books in the cloud. Instead of taking up space on a user’s hard drive, users will store all their books within their account that they can access with any device that has an internet connection. This will be great for college students, when more textbooks become available digitally.

Pros: This Cloud technology is a new concept that will eventually take off and has the potential of becoming the new standard when it comes to storing information.

Most devices that can get a Wi-Fi signal will be able to use Google books including smart phones and tablets
Cons: If your device doesn’t have a signal or something is wrong with its signal catching technology, users will not be able to access your books.

The application will be very practical in the future of online training. However it will take some further convincing to make it the standard.

Dealmap is a very useful app for those who would like to save money. Whether the user is a student or a family person, stretching the dollar is important. Dealmap presents deals from many companies that can give great deals at restaurants, automotive repair and even massage parlors.

Pros: Saving money. For students, saving money for books or other school supplies is always appreciated. Parents of students will enjoy all the deals as well.
Cons: At the moment, not every company is represented by Dealmap.

This application has very obvious practical uses. And as more small business owners take advantage of the system, there will be more deals for people to take advantage of.

Weather Window by WeatherBug is a useful application that calibrates the geographical location and tells users what the temperature is as well as gives a forecast of the week. It updates frequently to give users the current weather if any changes occur.

Pros: It allows users to view forecasts for different areas so they can plan outings appropriately.
The app also has a Google Maps layer as well as Google Traffic map layer to help plan for difficult driving conditions.
Cons: The app does exactly what it is supposed to do. As a practical device, Weather Window is very helpful when trying to schedule around the weather as well as what to wear. It really doesn’t have any flaws.

Podio is essentially a social network for a business. Managers and their team use Podio in order to get their tasks done. Podio also has many free apps that different parts of the company can add to their specific Podio accounts. There are useful apps for sales, accounting and just about any other department a business could have.

Pros: Podio gives more structure to a business as well as keeps its employees on task and productive.
There are many apps that each department can download and use to make their work environment more productive.
Team members can chat with each other to see what they are doing.
It’s currently free.
Cons: Getting the process started and everyone using and understanding the software may prove to be a challenge for those who are unaccustomed to change.

This app is incredibly helpful for project managers to see who is working and who is not, making it very practical when deciding who to keep and who to fire. It may also provide a brilliant way to figure out employee raises

The Fractulator is a nice calculator that allows users to do fractions. Depending the user’s math skill level, this calculator can help lot with online learning and math homework.

Pros: Solving factions is a lot faster than it used to be. Homework will go by really fast.
Cons: All it does is fractions.

Still a very practical app if solving faction equations is too bothersome. With this application users can breeze through fraction work in a fraction of the time.

Google Apps like other application providers are useful and practical tools for any person or business. They help make things run smoother as well as create more innovative ways to get the job done. Though not all of them are universal yet, the future is coming quickly for applications.

Cosmic Panda is a new experiment from YouTube. You have been seeing the same YouTube interface for the past 8 years and now the developers at YouTube is trying out a completely revamped YouTube interface and its coming through the YouTube labs for testing. The new design is focused more on the Channels and the Watching experience. That means you will find more options and features for designing a better YouTube channel and the video watching experience is also pretty great as the new design is more of with dark background. The new player has four video size options which includes3 buttons below the video windows and one full screen option.

While watching the videos you will find the new design is more focused on the videos played on the player as the commenting system is placed in different tab. You can anytime try out and migrate your account to experience the Cosmic Panda. Also anytime you can revert back to the old design by accessing the same link. For those who have a YouTube channel they can redesign the channel page as you are provided with more templates for your channel.

While having fun with this new design from the lab YouTube is also encouraging you to send them your feedback. Hopefully we can expect this rolling out to every user pretty soon.

Hardlywork.in is a website created by a university student named Bay Gross for opening Facebook account at work. Because when you open your Facebook account from Harlywork.in website it will display your profile as an excel spreadsheet. You can fake the people around you that you are working on some excel spreadsheet and they will never knew that you are actually checking your Facebook news feed.

The site came online on last Sunday after 15 hours developing by Mr. Gross. When your profile is loaded you can view the From and To part of users then then number of Likes and Comments earned by the Contents. Also it displays the updated time of every feeds on your profile.

If you click on any link straight away that will take you to the corresponding video or image. Even if you hover on some links it will display a thumbnail view of the same content on the right side bottom of the page.

If you press the spacebar while on this window it will display a different spreadsheet with lot of figures. This is actually a bonus feature of this website to quickly hide the Facebook updates from your spreadsheet window.

Castle.so is a web application which helps to share a file online very easily. You can drag & drop the file in to the Castle.so website window and it straight away upload the file up to 15 MB and store it on to it server then provides a URL for you to share it with others. If you are looking for a quick file share service then this is the right web application as it won’t require creating an account for a quick file sharing.

But still if you want you can create an account on Castle.so. A free account holder can store up to 5 files with less than 15MB in size on its online storage account. Also remember after every 10 downloads of each of these files will get purged automatically. So only 5 files will be stored consecutively on the Castle servers under one account.

If you are using the Internet Explorer 9 or below you will be disappointed as the drag and drop feature will not be compatible with the IE9. So you will see the options to download the modern browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Opera. But then you can still upload the files using the IE 9 with the file uploading feature on the page you see while opened it from the IE9.

Check it out Castle.so

Privnote creates a note which is self-destructive after it reads. You can send confidential information without any fear that it will get intercepted and tracked by any firewalls. (There are security devices which can scan keywords and track information)Using Privnote you can type in the information on the note and once you click on Create Note button it encrypts the data and provides a link which can be shared on the email. So anyone receives the link on their email can read the content once. The data gets destructed up-on opening the link on your browser. But if your note is unread it will stay on the Privnote server for 30 days and it gets purged thereafter.

Privenote data can be copied or even captured as screenshot for once, but don’t forget that Privnote offers a secure communication between two persons only. If you are sharing the Privnote with someone then you are intentionally doing it, so there is no need of having special protection to keep the data copy protected. Privnote has HTTPS security and Read Notification feature are its worth mentioning features.

Here is how it works!
