Android Powered smart phones like HTC Evo, T-Mobile G1, Motorola Droid or Samsung Vibrant have lot of intense appliations to perform and hence the battery hardly lasts a day with a single recharge. Slimmer designs with reduced space for the battery, bigger screens, super fast processors, applications that runs in the background, 3G/4G networks and power-hungry GPS chips all share responsibility.
These are some of the tips we would like to share to improve your handset’s battery life:
- Set display brightness to adjust automatically – Reduce down the brightness or better still would be to set the setting to the automatic adjustment so that the Android OS will automatically dim its display in well-lit indoor rooms.
- Reduce e-mail, Twitter, and Facebook polling – Set your various messaging apps setting to “manual” and you’ll notice a remarkable improvement in smart phone’s battery life.
- Disable extra tasks – Though Android has an automatic task management it is still better disable some misbehaving programs like social-networking apps that like to connect the Internet frequently. Advanced Task Killer will help disable unnecessary internet access and increase the battery life.
- Turn hardware features off – Disable hardware features like GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth and only enable them whenever required. Location-based apps running the background puts a constant drain on the battery and also disable 3g/4g internet when you don’t need internet access.
- Remove unnecessary widgets – Widgets on the home screen, are another major source for consuming power and also the pretty animated widgets.
- Reduce RSS feed update frequency – Change the setting to update feeds and set their defaults to poll at a certain set period of time.
- Disable all audible sounds and haptic (vibration) feedback.
- Reduce screen timeout time & turn off animation.
- Disable Live Backgrounds and reduce down the number of dynamic widgets that require constant updates.
- Force to run on GSM only (no WCDMA) when internet is not required.
